What to do when laden with guilt, or full of fears.

Laden with guilt, and full of fears
I fly to Thee, my Lord,
And not a glimpse of hope appears
But in Thy written Word.

For the Christian, there is only one sure thing that will sure our fears and guilt and stress, the written Word of God. This is where we must fly when our hearts are heavy and our minds are pressed down with anxious thoughts. Why?

The volumes of my Father’s grace
Does all my griefs assuage;
Here I behold my Savior’s face
Almost in every page.

Because God Almighty is revealed to us in this written Word. My emotions and desires change as the days go by, but God stays the same. There is no need for God to send an updated Bible for us, neither do we need any errata for the one we have. God is revealed to us in a prefect and wonderful way in the pages of His book. Assuage means to calm, satisfy, or remove pain. This is what a view of God does for the believer.

This is the field where hidden lies
The pearl of price unknown;
That merchant is divinely wise
Who makes the pearl his own.

The only way to make this pearl my own is to sell all the junk I have to buy it. But this sale is not a reluctant one, because this one pearl of great price will satisfy me all the days of my life because of it’s wonderful beauty and value. The troubles of this world cannot sway me so long as I clutch this treasure that is Christ.

Here consecrated water flows
To quench my thirst of sin;
Here the fair tree of knowledge grows,
Not danger dwells therein.

What a wonder the Word of God is! Here is where true knowledge is found. He is where I find the path that leads to life. Here is where I see the desire of my heart.

This is the Judge that ends the strife
Where wit and reason fail,
My guide to everlasting life
Through all this gloomy vale.

O may Thy counsels, mighty God,
My roving feet command;
Nor I forsake the happy road
That leads to Thy right hand.

Oh God…I need God.
